Thank you for this. I love Mearsheimer. Does it look like he's put on some weight? Hope the guys okay. It'll be a real loss of rationality if we lose that guy.
Love it! So much where y mind was. “Immediately defensive?” How about insistent Murray be accurate and truthful.
Like you, I learned about Murray from watching Rogan, then started reading him. I also learned Murray was a putz by watching Rogan, and I’m done reading him now.
The pseudonyms are tricky. He takes on a role to make a point, but the words are not usually his point. He believed indirectness helped people see themselves for what they were better than directness, for a while … then his anti-church books piled on at the end. Like V and Eve, after her fake torture … “no more lies, only truth.”
I’m presently reading Søren Kierkegaard: The Point of View for My Work as an Author, basically his guide on how to view all his previous works. Explaining why he didn’t just come right out and say certain things, he wrote “A direct attack only strengthens a person in his ill illusion and the same time embitters him … It is impossible for me to compel a person to accept an opinion a conviction, a belief. But one thing I can do: I can compel him to take notice.”
His work was designed to help you see who you were… not who he was. To spit in your face and call you an idiot for thinking X wouldn’t do any good. But to help you express X, you might realize “Holy crap, I’m an idiot …”
He was also very patient. In fear and trembling, he says “faith is a task for a lifetime” and you are not going to reap the seeds of faith you planted yesterday.
I read about that yesterday, how fucking cool is that. At the end he wrote a book explaining his books and his different pseudonyms. Just a great writer, an interesting writer and also an interesting personality. Something I'm sure wasn't common back then. We're lucky to have one of those traits.
Just got "fear and trembling" + "the sickness unto death" and "the present age" in the mail, and have "the essential " on the way, idk which one to read first? Lol. I might start at the "present" what do you think?
Memories … present age was written by Kierkegaard, not one his pseudonyms (ie fear & trembling by Johannus de silencio), so you’re gettin the real him. He pushed hard into what it means to be an individual before God when the know Christian world is all a fraud. My opinion … you can’t go wrong wherever you start (unless you start and end with Either/Or, which was pseudonymous and not actually his opinion in a lot of things).
Oh, wow! So present age was written in his name and fear and trembling was written under a pseudonym. How fucking cool! Thank you. You have so much about this stuff. That’s so fucking cool!
Peegee, perhaps you misread me … I did not learn about Doug Murray last week on Rogan, I first learned about Doug Murray many years ago on Rogan, and I’ve done enough reading and listening to him to know he really does not like it when you call him Doug.
Congratulations on a great avatar. Benny Hill was my favorite show as a kid.
And for the record I’ve read every one of his books and the new one on the way, big fan of his debates, absolutely despise his “Neoconservatism and why we need it.”
Now that the veil has been lifted we know who he actually is. It sure ain’t who he represents in his books.
It seems his ghastly writing for the New York Post might be the best representation of who he actually is. He had a thick wool over our eyes.
Thank you Mom! That is my goal. It turns out the truth is never black and white. It lies somewhere between the nuances of perspectives from each side of an issue. I’m just trying to search through perspectives myself and seek the truth no matter where it takes. If you come away from something I wrote knowing more than when you went in my work here is done.

He looks OK to me, I sure hope so. Yea, he's one of my favorite people.

Especially if he’s gonna call for “standards”. A man in a glass house shouldn’t throw stones.
Right, way to tank your book sales. There should be a masterclass on this, “fucking up a book deal and ruining my reputation like a Master.”
“Exposing my idiocy like a master” and my favorite “Avoiding debate, during debate, by biting the hand that feeds me, like a master”

Good luck. Happy reading.
Whoa! The words are not usually his point. How amazing iab
Phone froze. "The words are not usually his point" so you've got to read through them. That's amazing! How cool!
Oh, I've got to get those booms next. Thank you.

🤣🤣🤣
That’s like saying I learnt about the Titanic from watching Rose and Jack on the driftwood.
🤣🤣🤣
Please actually do a bit of research before boasting about what you know.

It looks like it's "the present age" and "the difference between an apostle and an apple" which seems like a good question. Lmao

That’s why I made sure to “Doug” him up in my piece. Hahahahahaha!
Remember the Munk debates?
“Malc…”

Love your passion! I always come away knowing more.
